What Are Good Carbs

What are good carbs? That's what Baby Carter kept wondering when he heard his parents talking about good carbs and bad carbs, so one day when his mom was working in the kitchen, he pretended to be playing with the remote, but he turned on a talk show instead, and the topic happened to be, "What are good carbs?"

What Are Good Carbs

Baby Carter learned a lot from that talk show, and he's here to share the answer the "what are good carbs?"

What's Good About Good Carbs

Lots of things! I'm Baby Carter, and I want to explain good carbs to you. Now, first of all, there's this biological side that is a little complicated for a one-year-old like me, so I'll explain it in terms that I understand. You have to think of good carbs like one of those really big ropes people use to play tug-of-war. You can't break those with your bare hands because they have a lot of fibers. Good carbs are like that. They have hundreds and thousands of molecules that make up one sugar molecule, so it takes a long time for your body to break that one molecule down. That means you feel full longer, and eat less.

Funny story--after that talk show I watched, I heard mommy and daddy talking about good and bad carbs again, and daddy said, "Now, what are good carbs?" So I jumped in and explained. My mommy is a nurse, and when I ran all this by her, she told me it was right. (After she woke up from fainting, of course. I don't know if she fainted because I talked or because of what I said.)

Anyway, after I explained all that, they asked me again, "But what are good carbs exactly? What foods are good carbs?" So I listed them:

Admittedly, I've never had most of these foods because I only have 1 1/2 teeth. I think I have had vegetables, but they were in baby food form. I have, however, had pasta, and I told them I'd be willing to switch to whole wheat pasta if they were. They just looked at each other with surprised looks on their faces. Weird.

Speaking of switching, I also learned that substituting good carbs for bad carbs is not as bad as people might think it is. The taste difference is barely noticeable, but you do get full faster. Even my big sister got in on the act and asked (very cynically, I might add) "What are good carbs?" but she didn't stick around long enough to find out. Apparently, the answer bored her.

Hopefully, I've helped answer the question, "What are good carbs?"
