Food Low In Carbs: Track Them Down This Instant
High carbs, low carbs....who knows what foods are high in carbs and what foods are low in carbs? If you're convinced that you absolutely must start a low carb diet (or at least lower your carb intake considerably) then you're probably trying to learn which foods are food low in carbs.
A New Way to Shop
When you're at the grocery store looking for food low in carbs, it can be challenging--particularly if you're new at it. The best thing you can do is get a carb counter book so you know where to head once you're in the store (unless you want to wander the aisles aimlessly, reading labels to determine if this product or that is actually food low in carbs or not). If you don't have time for that, we'll try to help you out by making a few suggestions.
The most obvious food low in carbs is, of course, meat. Now, in the past, low carb dieters have taken this to mean they can have absolutely any kind of meat they want. But the smarter low carb dieters choose lean meats, fish and poultry. Cheese and eggs are two other good choices when it comes to food low in carbs. Combine meat, cheese and eggs and you can make a quiche, an omelet or a breakfast casserole that's divine!

You can't eat any of this.
For snacks, you can get string cheese or beef jerky. You can even buy pre-cooked chicken that's been sliced up for salads. Some of it is even seasoned. You can have it on romaine lettuce, hard boiled eggs and shredded cheese for a healthy salad or you can eat it alone for a snack.
The Appeal of Food Low in Carbs
For meals on the go, protein shakes and bars are great meal replacements. Just don't replace every meal with them. And don't expect protein shakes to be the kind you get at an ice cream store. The pre-made ones are nothing like that. But if you buy protein powder, use low carb milk and enough ice, you can make something that's pretty close. Just don't add sugar--use sugar substitute instead if you must sweeten it. And don't add fruit. (It's very strange to be on a diet that restricts almost all fruit and vegetables, isn't it?) Indeed.
Anyway, this should get you started.
