Foods Low In Carbs
Low carb Twinkies? Low carb Ho-Hos? So far, these have not been created. Sorry! Until they are, you are probably going to be in search of other foods low in carbs.
Read the Label
You already know that meat, cheese, eggs and nuts are excellent foods low in carbs. You might even know that you can get low carb bread now too. (Who ever thought you could have bread on a low carb diet?!) And bread makers aren't the only ones jumping on the low carb bandwagon. There are a lot of low carb baking mixes out there, low carb milk, low carb ice cream...even low carb chocolate! (Yes, they make low carb chocolate and low carb ice cream, but not low carb Twinkies. Go figure!)
Most of these newer foods low in carbs are not for people in the first two weeks of their low carb diet (except the milk--it only has 3 grams of carbs per cup). Most of these foods taste just like the full carb versions, but they have just as many calories--sometimes more. And let's face it--when you cut out any food group to lose weight, it's a form of cutting calories, so eating more of a food just because it's low in fat or low in carbs doesn't necessarily mean you're eating fewer calories. It can be a dangerous game for anyone who's watching his or her weight, whether they are on a low carb diet or not. That's why it's imperative that you read the labels on foods low in carbs.
So the next time you're at the store and tempted to stock up on foods labeled as foods low in carbs, read the labels and take them into consideration. You might be glad you did.
